Description Of History And Philosophy:
“Let us first be as simple and well as Nature ourselves, dispel the clouds which hang over our brows, and take up a little life into our pores. Do not stay to be an overseer of the poor, but endeavor to become one of the worthies of the world.”
- Walden, Henri David Thoreau
Walden (named in homage to Thoreau) is a project of Clos de Fees’ Hervé Bizeul in collaboration with small family vintners and designed to affordably showcase the potential of Roussillon’s old Carignan and Grenache vines. They decided to create a intermediary solution between a 'cooperative', a wine merchant and private domain in order to help the local vine-growers.
Gathered around Hervé, who runs and finances the collective structure, the winegrower partners collaborating in the Walden Alliance all have a strong cultural
know-how and undeniable passion for their craft. Cultivating small plots, sometimes
several ares, often on slopes, always difficult to access with
machine, they work at the heart of a wild and untouched nature. Their plots are made of
multiple terroir consisting of various soils and diverse exposition. The first vintage, 2004,
included 3 growers with a production of 14,400 bottles. The fourth vintage, 2007, includes
9 partners with 72,000 bottles being produced.
