 06/21/2010 CLASSIC & VINTAGE ADDS WHISTLEPIG FARM DISTILLERY TO THEIR PORTFOLIO OF WORLD-CLASS ARTISAN SPIRITS NEW YORK, NY (June 21, 2010) -- Classic & Vintage Artisinal Spirits has expanded its world-class portfolio to include the just-released product WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey. WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey, presented by WhistlePig Farm Distillery Proprietor Raj Peter Bhakta and his partner and Master Distiller David Pickerell, debuted in New York City in June. WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey is made from 100 percent rye, and hand bottled at 100 proof, at WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Shoreham, Vermont. About WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey Before joining WhistlePig, Pickerell served as the Master Distiller of Maker's Mark bourbon for 14 years. Bhakta says "After leaving Maker's Mark, Dave spent over a year scouring North America for great rye whiskies. He found a real gem. Sadly for the palates of fine whiskey connoisseurs, we can oly fill 1,000 cases this year. Given the scarcity of fine aged ryes, we could have priced WhistlePig considerably higher. However, in the interest of building the brand and customer loyalty, we decided to offer real value: more rye, bottled at a higher proof, selected by hand by a true whiskey maestro, at a price point significantly below the competition. We've chosen to launch in New York City...along with a limited allocation for Chicago and San Francisco." Pickerell adds, "We have been fortunate to work with renowned experts in the whiskey field, including Malt Advocate Magazine publisher John Hansell, to carefully select the final bottling proof (100 proof) to best highlight the qualities of this extraordinary rye whiskey. Raj's entrepreneurial background, combined with my experience as a master distiller, and our shared passion for whiskey, is a perfect blend to build this brand." Aged for a minimum of 10 years in charred white oak casks, WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey has a dark golden amber color. Pickerell describes the taste as "rich with a full-bodied character and warm, sweet and floral notes with hints of caramel and vanilla, followed almost instantly by the rye-spice and mint flavors, culminating with a creamy butterscotch finish." He also adds, "100/100 is distilled purely from rye, so all of the rye essence comes through, with no corn sweetness. Because it is aged for a minimum of 10 years, the wood knocks off the rough edges and rounds out the taste profile -- a perfect balance of rye spice and oak sweetness." Pickerell adds, "In my humble opinion, this is the finest rye whiskey available in the world."
